After Global Times spread false narratives about the Indian Army's anti-terror strike in Pahalgam, the Indian government blocks the Chinese state media’s Twitter handle
New Delhi: In a decisive move against international propaganda, India has banned the official Twitter account of the Chinese state-run media outlet Global Times after it was found spreading fake news about the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.
The bold crackdown comes in the wake of increasing disinformation campaigns targeting India’s security forces. The Global Times, known for pushing the Chinese government’s narrative, shared unverified and misleading information about Operation Sindoor, questioning both its execution and intent.
"Dear Global Times News, we recommend that you check the facts of the news and double-check your news sources before publishing this kind of misinformation," said a sharply-worded advisory from the Indian Embassy in China.
Operation Sindoor, which reportedly crippled terrorist networks in the Kashmir valley, has garnered widespread support from citizens and allies — but triggered a wave of false reports from pro-Pakistan and pro-China accounts, attempting to undermine India’s security efforts.
A Matter of National Integrity and Media Ethics
According to Indian officials, the ban is not merely a tech-based censorship move, but a diplomatic and ethical warning to foreign media houses who irresponsibly amplify unverified content that directly affects national security narratives.
"When these media outlets share such information without checking the sources of the news, it reflects a serious lapse in responsibility and journalistic ethics," an Indian government source told News Flash.
The banned account had a significant following and influence, which Indian authorities believe could have misled a large global audience. The deliberate misrepresentation of facts during a critical military operation is now being seen as an attempt to destabilize trust in Indian institutions and internationalize internal issues.
India’s firm message is clear — misinformation in the name of journalism will not be tolerated, especially when national security is at stake.
Digital Strike Echoes Military Precision
Much like Operation Sindoor itself, this ‘digital surgical strike’ signals a zero-tolerance policy towards propaganda, irrespective of its origin. Officials say further action may be taken against any foreign handles or portals peddling fake narratives, particularly on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and Facebook.
"This is not just about a social media ban. It’s about drawing red lines. China must respect them," said a senior analyst on geopolitical strategy.
As Operation Sindoor continues to inspire patriotic fervor across the country, India’s clampdown on hostile media voices signals a new age of information warfare, where truth and accountability will take center stage.
