MIB Orders Immediate Takedown of All Pakistani Films, Songs, Podcasts in Interest of National Security

New Delhi: In a strong response to rising national security concerns, especially following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 innocent lives, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued a blanket ban on all Pakistani-origin content being streamed in India across OTT platforms, music apps, and digital media services.

In a notification issued Thursday, the Ministry cited the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, directing all media streaming intermediaries and OTT platforms to immediately remove Pakistani movies, songs, and podcasts from their platforms. The directive applies to all 60+ OTT services operating in India, including popular music and audio platforms like Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and SoundCloud.

The government emphasised that no content should be disseminated or shared that threatens India's unity, sovereignty, security, or public order, or affects friendly ties with foreign nations. The action comes in the wake of growing outrage against cross-border terrorism and cultural infiltration following recent attacks.

Officials stated that this ban is not just symbolic but a firm message to hostile actors using soft power as propaganda, and that India will no longer entertain cultural imports from nations that harbor and sponsor terror.
