Mastermind of IC-814 Hijack, Masood Azhar's Brother Eliminated in Precision Strike Across Bahawalpur and Muridke

New Delhi : In a decisive blow to Pakistan-based terror outfits, Indian intelligence agencies have confirmed the death of Abdul Rauf Azhar, the operational chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and brother of its founder Masood Azhar, during ‘Operation Sindoor’, a covert airstrike mission executed by the Indian Army deep inside Pakistani territory.

Abdul Rauf Azhar, a UN-designated global terrorist and the key planner of the IC-814 Kandahar hijacking, was killed in an Indian airstrike in Bahawalpur, JeM’s operational base in Pakistan’s Punjab province. According to sources, the attack also eliminated 10 close family members of Masood Azhar, including his sister and brother-in-law.

In a parallel strike, Indian forces also targeted Muridke, the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) — dealing a heavy blow to both JeM and LeT's terror infrastructure, which has been responsible for training and launching cross-border attacks on India.

While JeM has acknowledged casualties in Bahawalpur, it stopped short of naming Abdul Rauf Azhar. However, top Indian intelligence sources have verified through Pakistani insiders that Rauf and four of his trusted aides were among the dead.

Rauf Azhar’s elimination marks one of the biggest anti-terror successes for India, given his deep links to global jihadist networks and his involvement in facilitating the release of Al-Qaeda terrorist Omar Saeed Sheikh, who later murdered Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl.

Officials describe this precision operation as a symbolic and strategic victory that sends a powerful message to terror masterminds sheltered in Pakistan.
