Kolar Farmers Halt Tomato Exports to Pakistan in Protest Against Terror Attacks

Agricultural community takes a stand, ceasing exports to Pakistan following recent terrorist incidents

Kolar: In a significant move reflecting national sentiment, tomato farmers in Kolar, Karnataka, have decided to stop exporting their produce to Pakistan. This decision comes in the wake of recent terrorist attacks, including the tragic incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists.

Historically, Kolar has been a major supplier of tomatoes to Pakistan, exporting approximately 800 to 900 tonnes annually. However, in solidarity with the nation and as a form of protest against cross-border terrorism, farmers and traders have collectively resolved to cease all tomato exports to the neighbouring country.

"Even if we incur losses, we won't send a single tomato to Pakistan," stated a local farmer, emphasising the community's commitment to national interests over economic gains.

This grassroots action aligns with broader national measures, including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and the halting of trade relations with Pakistan. The cumulative effect of these actions has reportedly led to shortages of essential commodities in Pakistan, with tomato prices soaring to Rs 200 per kg in some areas.

Kolar's decision mirrors similar actions taken by farmers in other parts of India. In Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district, for instance, tomato growers have also stopped exports to Pakistan as a mark of protest.

The collective stance of Indian farmers underscores a unified national response to terrorism, demonstrating that every sector, including agriculture, plays a role in the country's resilience and solidarity.
