Debt Devours a Family: Grief-Stricken Father Jumps Into Well With Son in Kundapur, Suicide Note Reveals Chilling Truth

Kundapur: In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the peaceful coastal town of Kundapur, a father and son duo allegedly ended their lives by jumping into a well near Thekkatte fish market on Thursday morning, driven by the unbearable burden of debt.

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Madhav Devadiga (55) – a petrol pump worker

  • Prasad Devadiga (22) – his son, also a petrol pump employee

Their wife and mother, Tara Devadiga, who attempted to end her life alongside them, was miraculously rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

“We worked hard every day, but the loans never stopped. We saw no way out…”

Debt and Despair: A Family Torn Apart

According to sources, the Devadiga family was neck-deep in debt, despite all three members working tirelessly:

  • Madhav and Prasad worked at a local petrol pump

  • Tara worked as a cook at Kumbhasi Chandika Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple

The emotional toll of constant financial struggle reportedly pushed them to take this extreme step. The family had reached the end of their hope — the only escape they saw was death.

The suicide note reportedly details the mental trauma, financial helplessness, and the burden of living a life drowned in loans.

“We have recovered a suicide note. It clearly mentions financial distress as the main reason. An investigation is underway,”
Kundapur Police Official (on record)

Community in Shock, Temple Authorities Mourn

Locals expressed deep sorrow over the incident. The temple authorities, where Tara worked, said they were unaware of the depth of the family’s distress. Social media users have begun calling for better support systems for financially struggling families.
