Geometry Brewery & Kitchen Robbery Cracked: Accused Spent Loot on Sister’s Wedding, Nabbed from Jajpur

Bengaluru: In a dramatic breakthrough, Subrahmanyanagar Police have cracked a mysterious theft case that occurred at Geometry Brewery and Kitchen in Rajajinagar, North Bengaluru, on May 12, after four days of relentless investigation and analysis of over 150 CCTV cameras and call detail records.

The accused has been identified as Malipuram Dilip Kumar alias Tuttu, a 29-year-old B.Com graduate from Jajpur, Odisha. He was arrested on May 16 in his hometown, days after he allegedly stole ₹50,000 in cash from the pub to fund his sister’s wedding, which took place on May 14.

“He committed the theft out of desperation. The entire stolen amount was spent on the wedding,” police sources stated.

Cracking the Case:

Police began their investigation by retracing the suspect’s steps using extensive surveillance footage. The accused was finally tracked to Jajpur, Odisha, where he had fled soon after the robbery.

Upon arrest, police recovered:

  • A cutting player used in the robbery

  • ₹6,000 in cash

  • No weapons were found in his possession

Timeline of the Accused’s Criminal Background:

  • 2016: Moved to Bengaluru for work, took jobs in pubs across Jayanagar and JP Nagar

  • 2021: Arrested by Koramangala Police for attempted theft

  • Post-2021: Released on bail, continued working in hotels

  • 2024: Returned to Odisha citing low wages

  • Nov 2024: Came back to Bengaluru, resumed work at a hotel in JP Nagar

  • March 2025: Quit job again, citing financial stress

  • May 2025: Committed the theft at Geometry Brewery

“Under severe financial pressure to support his sister’s marriage, the accused turned to crime again,” said a senior police officer.

After presenting him before a local court in Jajpur, police brought him back to Bengaluru the following night. As per the latest update, the accused will be produced before court on Friday and remanded to judicial custody, as the police have not sought further custodial interrogation.
