AIDSO holds state-level convention in Bengaluru; calls for mass movement against Hub and Spoke Model
Bengaluru: Strongly criticizing the Karnataka Government's decision to shut down over 6,000 government schools under the "Hub and Spoke" model, the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) held a state-level convention on Saturday at the UVCE Alumni Association Hall, demanding a rollback and vowing to intensify their fight to save public education.
Delivering the keynote address, AIDSO State Secretary Ajay Kamath said, We must ask – Who benefits from the closure of these schools? Private schools are thriving on the fears of parents. Governments are backing this system that favours the elite. Public education is the casualty.”
He stated that families today are forced to spend up to 82% of their income on education and health, while the government continues to waive massive corporate loans, ₹16 lakh crore under the BJP in the last decade, and ₹30 lakh crore in 20 years.
This system must change. The dreams of Bhagat Singh and Netaji Subhash Chandra Boseare yet to be realized. The nation's wealth and education have gone into the hands of a few rich families,” Kamath added.
He called the closure of schools a social disaster, stating that if a child drops out, the entire family is plunged into darkness. Quoting reformers like Savitri Bai Phule, Jyotiba Phule, and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, he urged youth to step up in their legacy and protect education as a right, not a privilege.
The convention was presided over by AIDSO State Treasurer Subhash B. J., who highlighted that public education is a constitutional right, and urged every citizen to join this movement.
Leaders including State President Ashwini K.S., Vice Presidents Abhaya Diwakar, Hanamant H.S., Chandrakala, Apoorva, Office Secretary Mahantesh Bilur and others were present.
