Precision missile strikes in retaliation to Pahalgam terror attack; PM Modi oversaw overnight action
New Delhi,: In a high-level retaliatory strike, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'Operation Sindoor' in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting nine terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was carried out in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack that killed several Indian soldiers.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the action involved precision missile strikes on locations linked to terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). A total of nine locations were targeted—four in Pakistan and five in PoK.
The Indian Army clarified that no Pakistani military facilities were hit; only terror infrastructure was selected for the strike.
An Indian official, speaking to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally monitored the operation throughout the night, which commenced around 1:44 AM.
Key Terror Camps Targeted:
-
Bahawalpur (Markaz Subhan Allah Masjid – JeM)
-
Tehra Kalan (Sarjal – JeM)
-
Kotli (Markaz Abbas – JeM)
-
Muzaffarabad (Syedna Bilal Camp – JeM & Shwayi Nallah – LeT)
-
Muridke (Markaz Taiba – LeT)
-
Barnala (Markaz Ahle Hadith – LeT)
The Pakistan Army confirmed strikes at six sites, while India maintains all nine planned targets were successfully hit.
The strike is being compared to previous operations such as the 2016 Uri surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes, signaling India’s zero-tolerance stance toward cross-border terrorism.
Strategic Message
The Ministry of Defence reiterated that India remains committed to defending its sovereignty and will respond firmly to any attempt to destabilize peace.
