Two Security Personnel Seriously Injured; CM Omar Abdullah Mourns Loss of Dedicated Officer Amid Rising Indo-Pak Tensions
Jammu: In a tragic escalation of the ongoing Indo-Pak conflict, Rajkumar Thapa, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Rajouri district, was killed in the early hours of Saturday following heavy Pakistani shelling in the civilian areas of Rajouri town, Jammu and Kashmir. Two of his security personnel sustained serious injuries and are currently under treatment, officials confirmed.
According to government sources, the shelling began around midnight and directly targeted administrative quarters and residential zones. Rajkumar Thapa, a respected civil servant known for his dedication and efficiency, was reportedly struck while overseeing local coordination efforts amid heightened regional alertness.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed the tragic news on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle:
"Devastating news from Rajouri. We have lost a dedicated officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services. Just yesterday he was with the Deputy Chief Minister across the district and attended an online meeting chaired by me."
He added,
"Pakistan shelled Rajouri town. As a result, our Additional District Development Commissioner Rajkumar Thapa died. I have no words to express my shock and grief at this terrible loss of life. May his soul rest in peace."
This incident marks a grave escalation in civilian and administrative casualties amid the rising tensions triggered by the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s subsequent military response under Operation Sindhoora.
Security forces have since cordoned off the area, and emergency teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The Indian Army is on high alert across border districts, with counter-shelling operations underway.
