Karnataka government challenges High Court’s conditional bail order for seven accused, including Darshan and Pavithra Gowda; Supreme Court hearing scheduled today
Bengaluru: The legal troubles surrounding actor Darshan continue to mount, as the Supreme Court of India is scheduled to hear the state government’s plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to him and six other co-accused in the Renukaswamy murder case.
The High Court had earlier granted conditional bail to the accused. However, the Karnataka government moved the Supreme Court, challenging the order and citing concerns over interference in the ongoing investigation and the seriousness of the charges.
The Supreme Court bench will today hear the petition concerning:
-
Darshan
-
Pavithra Gowda
-
Pradush
-
Nagaraj
-
Anukumar
-
Lakshman
-
Jagadish
“The bail was challenged because the nature of the crime and available evidence necessitate custodial interrogation. We have urged the Supreme Court to reconsider the High Court's decision.”
said a senior legal official from the state government.
The accused are among several individuals named in the Renukaswamy murder case, which has drawn significant public and media attention due to the involvement of well-known personalities from the Kannada film industry.
Case Background
The case pertains to the alleged abduction and murder of Renukaswamy, with actor Darshan and others being key accused. Investigations have led to multiple arrests, with supplementary charge sheets reportedly under preparation.
What’s Next?
Legal experts suggest that today’s Supreme Court hearing will be crucial in determining the course of the ongoing investigation. A ruling in favour of the state could result in the revocation of bail and the return of the accused to judicial custody.
