Holiday Trip Turns Fatal as Bengaluru Youth Falls Victim to Reservoir Mishap

Magadi: A leisure outing turned into a heartbreaking tragedy on Sunday afternoon when three young women from Bengaluru drowned in the Vaijigudda reservoir, located in Magadi taluk of Ramanagara district.

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Raghav (18)

  • Madhumita (20)

  • Ramya (22)

All three were residents of Bengaluru and part of a group of seven young women who had arrived at the scenic reservoir for a visit.

“It was meant to be a casual visit, but joy turned into horror in moments,” said a local eyewitness.

According to initial reports, one of the young women accidentally slipped into the water. As panic ensued, others rushed forward to save her. In the process, three of them tragically fell deeper into the reservoir and drowned.

“A young man who was nearby managed to rescue four of the girls,” confirmed authorities on the scene.

Despite the swift rescue attempt, the three could not be saved. The incident has cast a shadow over the usually serene reservoir, which has now become the site of a devastating loss.

Emergency services were alerted immediately, and after a search operation, the bodies were recovered and have been sent to Magadi Public Hospital for post-mortem procedures.

“We have lost three bright young lives. This is not just an accident, it’s a wake-up call for better safety protocols at tourist and reservoir sites,” a police official commented.

The local administration has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident and whether any safety measures were in place around the reservoir.
