City records up to 132 mm rainfall overnight; BBMP deploys emergency teams across 8 zones for flood relief and rescue operations

Bengaluru: Heavy overnight rainfall, averaging 66 mm, with Kengeri recording the highest at 132 mm, caused widespread flooding and damage across the city. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched extensive rescue and relief operations across its eight zones, deploying over 30 teams to tackle waterlogging, treefalls, and flooding in homes.

Mahadevapura Zone (93 mm in HAL)

• Sai Layout among 10 flooded areas; boats, fire engines, JCBs deployed.

• Floodwaters entered homes in Chinnappanahalli, Panathur, Kasavanahalli, and Haralur.

• Relief efforts include breakfast, drinking water for affected residents.

East Zone (85 mm in Banaswadi)

• HBR Layout blocks 5–8, Byrasandra, Kamaraja Nagar face severe waterlogging due to overflowing rajakaluves.

• 6 maintenance teams, tractors, pumps, JCBs deployed.

Bommanahalli Zone (73 mm in HSR Layout)

• HSR 6th & 7th sectors, Bannerghatta Bilekallahalli, Yelachenahalli hit by waterlogging.

• Pumping systems deployed; situation under control.

South Zone (96 mm in Koramangala)

• Flooding in Koramangala 6th block, Madiwala, Ejipura, and Dollars Colony due to canal bottlenecks.

• Emergency bund cleared near Bellandur to ease water flow.

Yelahanka Zone (103 mm in Chowdeshwari Nagar)

• 15+ homes flooded in Attur, Defense Layout, Dwarka Nagar.

• All 29 lakes filled, but Kendriya Vihar and Ramanashri areas remain unaffected.

• Floodwaters cleared with pumps.

Rajarajeshwari Nagar Zone (132 mm in Kengeri – highest rainfall)

• 100 homes flooded in Kote Layout, 12 in Ideal Homes; 5 cattle dead.

• Rajakaluva overflowed at Vijayashree Badavane; relief underway.

Dasarahalli Zone (89 mm in Bagalgunte)

• Homes affected in K.G. Halli, Sridevi Layout, Medarahalli, Vidyanagar.

• Pumps used to flush out water.

West Zone (89 mm in Cottonpet)

• KP Agrahara sees 20 homes flooded due to rajakaluve overflow.

• 4 pumps installed to mitigate further flooding.

Citywide Treefall Response

• 27 trees and 43 branches fell overnight; 30 teams deployed for clearing.

• Most obstructions removed by early morning.

Citizens facing rain-related problems can call the BBMP helpline at 1533, or contact their respective zonal control rooms.

“BBMP officials are on the ground and actively coordinating with SDRF and fire services. Relief operations are ongoing round-the-clock,” said a senior BBMP officer.
