Love, Betrayal, and Caste Discrimination: Software Engineer Vanishes Overseas After Engagement with Dalit Girl; FIR Registered in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: In a disturbing case of love, deception, and caste betrayal, a 22-year-old Dalit woman has filed a complaint against a software engineer named Bharath, accusing him of sexual exploitation under the false promise of marriage and fleeing abroad to avoid the wedding.
The two reportedly met on Instagram, where Bharath—belonging to an upper-caste family—befriended the woman by complimenting her car and initiating conversations that led to a romantic relationship. Despite their caste differences, both families eventually agreed to the match, citing equal social status and mutual affection.
“He promised her that he would marry her. He even introduced himself as her husband-to-be and arranged lavish pre-wedding photoshoots and an engagement ceremony, spending lakhs of rupees,” said a source close to the victim's family.
As per the complaint filed at the Chennammanakere Achukattu Police Station, Bharath allegedly coerced the woman into a sexual relationship by convincing her that their marriage was inevitable. However, as the wedding date approached, Bharath allegedly backtracked, citing caste issues and escaped abroad, leaving the woman and her family devastated.
A Sinister Turn in an Inter-Caste Love Story
Initially, Bharath had rejected the girl on caste grounds, but later pursued her, convincing her family that love transcends caste. The two began moving around openly with family support. However, the woman alleges that Bharath used the relationship for physical gratification, only to abandon her at the final hour by fleeing the country.
“He said caste doesn’t matter. But when the wedding approached, he said, ‘I am upper caste, you’re not,’ and disappeared abroad,” the complaint quotes the victim.
The betrayal has sparked outrage within Dalit rights circles, who have demanded strict legal action and extradition proceedings if necessary.
Police Investigation Underway
The Chennammanakere Achukattu police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating, rape on false promise of marriage, and caste discrimination. Investigations are currently on to trace Bharath’s whereabouts and verify travel records.
“We are verifying the nature of the relationship, the timeline, and his departure details. Further action will be taken as per law,” said a senior investigating officer.
