Mother alleges delay in post-mortem memo as 10-year-old dies after coming in contact with high-tension wire
Bengaluru: An FIR has been registered against officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM), and the owner of a private building in connection with the death of a 10-year-old boy, Anant, due to an electric shock in KR Puram. The incident occurred on June 15, and the boy succumbed to his injuries at Victoria Hospital on June 20.
According to police, Anant, a Nepal-origin boy residing with his mother in Swatantra Nagar, KR Puram, came in contact with a high-tension wire while playing with a broom on the third floor of his rented house. His mother, Kula Devi, a housekeeper, was at work when the incident occurred. Neighbours, alerted by his screams, rushed him first to K R Puram Government Hospital and then to the burns ward at Victoria Hospital.
The boy battled for life for five days before passing away at around 12.30 pm on Friday. However, serious concerns were raised by the family over the delay in registering a case and issuing a post-mortem memo. The FIR was filed only after Kula Devi lodged a formal complaint on Friday evening. The post-mortem memo was reportedly issued nearly 18 hours after the FIR, causing distress to the family.
“My child died yesterday, but his body was not handed over even after a day. I kept waiting outside the hospital all night. I was not even given proper information.”

The FIR has been filed under IPC Section 106 (death due to negligence), and Section 3(5) read with negligence and equal participation, against the building owner Balaraju, as well as concerned officials from KPTCL and BESCOM, including engineers and assistant engineers. The Puram Police Station has taken up the case.
The family, originally from Nepal, had moved to Bengaluru for work. Following the incident, the post-mortem was scheduled at Victoria Hospital, and the body is expected to be handed over to the family after the procedure.
Police officials said further investigation is underway into the alleged negligence that led to the tragic death.
