Denied Return Home Amid Unemployment Struggles, Youth Found Hanging in Brother’s Rented House
Nelamangala: A heart-wrenching incident has shaken the quiet village of Thotadaguddahalli, where a 22-year-old unemployed youth from Bihar allegedly died by suicide after battling prolonged joblessness and rejection from his family to return home.
The deceased has been identified as Rahul Kumar Yadav (22), who had migrated to Karnataka in search of employment. However, after months of struggle and failure to secure a job, Rahul expressed a strong desire to return to Bihar, hoping for emotional support from his family. According to sources, his parents reportedly denied permission, which further worsened his mental state.
Tragically, Rahul was found hanging in his brother’s rented house, where he had been staying recently.
"The youth was mentally disturbed due to prolonged unemployment and the inability to return home. He died by suicide in his room,"
said a source close to the investigation.
The incident has sparked discussions on the growing pressure faced by migrant youth battling financial instability and isolation in urban areas.
Police Initiate Probe
The Madanayakanahalli Police have registered a case and are currently investigating the exact circumstances leading up to the suicide. Preliminary findings suggest that Rahul had no previous mental health treatment history, and his act came as a shock to those who knew him.
"We have registered a case and are gathering statements from the family and neighbours. A postmortem report is awaited."
confirmed an investigating officer from Madanayakanahalli Police Station.
This incident raises serious concerns about mental health support for unemployed youth, especially migrants living away from their families. Social workers have called for immediate psychological counselling cells in labour-dense areas and greater awareness about mental health services.
