Palestinian Authorities Raise Alarm Over Presence of Addictive Opioids in Flour; Label US-Israeli Aid Centres as ‘Death Traps’

Gaza: The Gaza Government Media Office has made explosive allegations that humanitarian aid flour distributed through US- and Israeli-backed centres contained oxycodone, a powerful and highly addictive opioid painkiller.

Officials claimed the prescription drugs were discovered in at least four bags of wheat flour meant for public distribution. The pills were reportedly found mixed with the flour, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility that some may have been crushed or dissolved, making them harder to detect.

“This is a heinous crime designed to destroy Palestinian society from within.”
The media office stated, directly blaming Israeli authorities for what it described as a calculated attempt to exploit humanitarian supplies during wartime conditions.

Deadly Implications of Oxycodone Exposure

Oxycodone, a controlled substance used to treat severe pain, can be fatal if misused. Gaza officials warned that in a population already suffering from chronic hunger, trauma, and displacement, unintentional consumption of even small amounts could have devastating health consequences.

Health experts note that oxycodone ingestion without medical supervision may result in respiratory depression, dependency, or death, especially among children and the elderly.

Accusations of Deliberate Sabotage

The Gaza media office has described the alleged contamination as an act of “biological warfare”, accusing Israel of turning food aid into a tool of mass manipulation and addiction. The statement referred to the aid distribution centres as "death traps", claiming this was part of a broader plan to undermine Palestinian resilience.

“The Israeli occupation has crossed every moral and humanitarian red line.”
officials said, urging international health agencies and the UN to urgently investigate the origin of the contaminated aid.

No Independent Verification Yet

As of now, independent organisations, including the UN or the Red Crescent, have not confirmed the presence of oxycodone in the flour supplies. The Israeli and US governments have not issued an official response to the allegations.

The situation has raised alarm among humanitarian groups operating in the region, prompting calls for immediate testing of all aid supplies being delivered to Gaza.

Context: Aid Under Scrutiny Amid War

The incident adds to mounting tensions surrounding the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza, where blockades, military operations, and widespread displacement have made millions reliant on external assistance.

Gaza officials have repeatedly accused Israel of using humanitarian mechanisms for political leverage, a claim that Israeli authorities have consistently denied.
