Bengaluru woman, separated from her husband, files police complaint against partner for blackmail, harassment, and extortion; accused in judicial custody
Bengaluru: In a deeply disturbing case, a 30-year-old woman from Kadugodi has filed a police complaint against her live-in partner, alleging blackmail, extortion, and harassment using secretly recorded private videos. The accused, identified as Srinivas, has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, the Kadugodi police confirmed.
Case Background:
The victim, a married woman, had left her husband in 2016 due to domestic violence while she was seven months pregnant. She came to Bengaluru in search of work, where she met Srinivas, who offered her a job and later moved in with her in a rented house near Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Kadugodi.
“The accused, who is himself married, convinced her to seek a divorce and began cohabiting with her. Without her knowledge, he recorded private videos of their intimate moments.”
said a senior officer at Kadugodi Police Station.
Blackmail and Harassment:
The woman has alleged that Srinivas used those private videos to blackmail and extort her, demanding money and threatening to leak the footage online if she refused.
“He extorted nearly ₹1 lakh in cash and also took away gold ornaments,”
the officer added.
The victim managed to escape from Srinivas in 2023, taking refuge at her parents' house in Kolar district. However, the accused allegedly continued his threats, harassing her mother and even calling her brother, demanding money and threatening to circulate the videos.

Unable to bear the continued harassment, the woman finally lodged a formal complaint at the Kadugodi police station a few days ago.
Following an investigation, Srinivas, a resident of Belathur, was arrested. He reportedly runs a computer shop in Kadugodi.
