PM Modi Briefs US President Donald Trump on Anti-Terror Operation Sindoor; Reiterates India’s Stand Against Third-Party Mediation

Washington: In a decisive diplomatic exchange, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a 35-minute phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, firmly stating that nations supporting terrorism “will face consequences.” The discussion centered on Operation Sindoor, India’s recent military operation targeting terror camps in Pakistan.

“Prime Minister Modi clarified that no trade-related matters were discussed in connection with Operation Sindoor.”
said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who issued an official statement following the call.

Highlights of the Call:

  • PM Modi briefed President Trump on Operation Sindoor, India’s counter-terror initiative across the border.

  • Modi emphasised that India opposes any form of third-party mediation in its internal or bilateral issues with Pakistan.

  • Trump had previously invited Modi for a short US visit following the G-7 summit in Canada. However, Modi declined due to prior commitments.

  • PM Modi, in turn, has invited Trump to India for the upcoming Quad Summit scheduled later this year.

Operation Sindoor: India's No-Nonsense Stance

The operation marks one of India's most assertive anti-terror responses in recent times. Officials said India remains uncompromising in its commitment to counter terrorism emanating from across the border.

“India has never accepted third-party mediation and will not accept such mediation in the future.”
stated Foreign Secretary Misri, making India’s diplomatic position unambiguous.

US President Cuts G-7 Trip Short Amid Middle East Crisis

President Donald Trump left the G-7 summit mid-way to deal with rising tensions between Israel and Iran. His call with PM Modi is seen as a significant move to align with India’s security concerns, especially after he earlier expressed solidarity with India following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

"President Trump expressed his condolences and reaffirmed support to India in its fight against terrorism,"
Foreign Secretary Misri added.

Strategic Takeaways:

  • The phone call strengthens Indo-US counter-terrorism cooperation.

  • India reiterates its rejection of foreign interference in regional conflicts.

  • Bilateral relations remain focused on security alignment, not trade or mediation.

Background Context:

India's Operation Sindoor follows increased terrorist activity in Kashmir. The April Pahalgam attack, which claimed several lives, intensified India's security operations and global diplomacy efforts to isolate sponsors of terrorism.
