Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy Revives Hiring in State Transport After Long Freeze, Highlights Transparent Selection and Pro-Employee Reforms in Bengaluru Ceremony
Bengaluru: In a significant milestone for Karnataka's public transport sector, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy today issued appointment orders to 2,000 newly recruited Driver-cum-Conductor candidates at the Central Offices of KSRTC in Bengaluru, ending an 8-year-long recruitment freeze.

The grand event was attended by S.R. Srinivas (Vasu), Chairman of KSRTC and MLA of Gubbi Constituency, Mohammed Rizwan Nawab, Vice Chairman, Akram Pasha (IAS), Managing Director, KSRTC, along with Directors, union leaders, and hundreds of eager candidates and their families.
"This recruitment is a turning point," said Ramalinga Reddy, addressing the gathering.
"It was conducted in an absolutely transparent manner, fully computerized, and based solely on merit — not a single manual intervention occurred."
The Minister congratulated the recruits, emphasizing the critical role of safe driving, courteous behavior, especially with women and students, and the importance of discipline in improving the reputation and performance of the Corporation.

Recruitment notifications for 2,000 Driver-cum-Conductor posts were issued in 2020, but paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Government granted final approval on 13.10.2023 for 2,000 D/C posts and 300 Technical Assistants.

25,494 applications were received; 13,954 candidates cleared document verification and underwent driving tests.

Skill tests were held at Humnabad and Hassan training centres and were 100% computerized.

A provisional list was released on 05.06.2025, objections invited, and the final selection list published on 12.06.2025.

Candidates were allocated depots via computerised counselling from 16–19 June 2025.

By 05.07.2025, all selected candidates are expected to report for duty.
“It is due to the efforts of Minister Ramalinga Reddy that recruitment—stalled for eight years—could resume,” said S.R. Srinivas, Chairman of KSRTC.
“Our goal is to strengthen KSRTC through honest, responsible staff who will uphold safety and service values,” added Vice Chairman Mohammed Rizwan Nawab.

“Sarige Suraksha” ₹1 Crore Accident Insurance Scheme:

₹1 crore compensation for accidental death, whether on or off duty.

26 families have received ₹1 crore each under this scheme.
Employee Family Welfare Relief Scheme:

Compensation increased from ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh from 01.11.2023.

So far, ₹10 lakh each has been provided to 125 families, totaling ₹12.5 crore.
Impact of Shakti Scheme:

478 crore women have travelled free under the Shakti Guarantee Scheme in just two years.

The zero-ticket value amounts to a staggering ₹12,092 crore.

The function was attended by senior IAS officers, including Nandinidevi K. (Director, Personnel & Vigilance) and Ibrahim Maigur (Director, IT), along with labour leaders and Corporation staff.
