Tragedy Strikes Ankit Pulps & Boards Pvt Ltd Reactor in Bhilgaon; Cause of Explosion Yet to be Ascertained

Nagpur: A devastating explosion rocked a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Nagpur district on Tuesday, killing one person and leaving six others injured, including one in critical condition. The incident occurred around 11:00 am at Ankit Pulps and Boards Private Limited located in Bhilgaon, Eastern Maharashtra.

According to preliminary reports from local authorities, the explosion occurred in a chemical reactor, causing a powerful blast that shook nearby buildings and created panic in the industrial zone.

“We received an alert at around 11 a.m. about an explosion at the unit. One person has died, and six others have sustained injuries.”
A senior police official informed the media.

The injured individuals, including the critically hurt victim, were immediately rushed to a hospital in Camptie, a nearby town, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Medical teams have been deployed on emergency footing.

Investigation Launched

Police sources confirmed that the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, and a technical team has been dispatched to investigate the equipment and chemical handling procedures inside the unit.

The blast reportedly originated from within a reactor chamber, used for processing pharmaceutical-grade materials. Authorities have sealed the unit pending further safety audits and forensic investigation.

“We are coordinating with fire safety and chemical inspection teams to determine the cause and assess whether any industrial safety protocols were breached.”
said a senior fire department official on-site.

This incident has raised fresh concerns over industrial safety compliance in pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing units across Maharashtra, especially those located in populated regions like Nagpur's Bhilgaon area.
