A transformative fusion of art, heritage, and curatorial brilliance breathes new life into Karnataka’s visual legacy—MG Girish Koti says the space now stands as a living tribute to two of the state’s most iconic artists
Bengaluru: In what is being hailed as a landmark moment in the cultural history of Karnataka, the Dwija Society of Art and Cultural Heritage has successfully unveiled the reimagined Venkatappa and Hebbar Art Gallery, an immersive space that reverently honours the genius of K.K. Hebbar and K. Venkatappa, while also setting a new benchmark in the country’s museum and gallery design ethos.
While speaking exclusively with News Flash, M. Girish Koti, Senior Art Conservator and Curator of the project, described the journey as “intense and deeply fulfilling.”
“Our sole aim during this journey was to create a space that is immersive, informative, and reflective of Karnataka’s legendary artistic journey. The final outlook and outcome of the exhibition are a testament to months of collaborative dedication, curatorial vision, and heartfelt effort.”
He highlighted that every phase of the transformation—from extensive historical research and narrative ideation to spatial choreography and execution—was curated with precision and intent.
This ambitious project was not just a renovation—it was a rebirth.
“Each artwork, every placement, every archival caption, and curatorial text was approached with thoughtful research, sensitivity to the artist’s legacy, and a strong design logic,” said Koti.
“Lighting, sightlines, pacing, and transitions were all carefully considered to enhance the viewer’s experience,” he added.
An Unparalleled Visitor Experience
The redesigned gallery space promises visitors not just a visual feast but a deeply emotive and educational experience. With thoughtfully planned curatorial zones, layered narratives, and immersive design elements, the gallery honors the timeless spirit of Karnataka’s art while making it accessible to today’s audience.
“We focused on visual harmony, clarity of communication, and respect for the artworks’ individual narratives,” shared the Dwija Society team.
This remarkable transformation is not just an exhibition, it is a living museum where past and present merge, inviting the viewer to reflect, engage, and appreciate Karnataka’s rich artistic tapestry.
The Dwija Society's efforts have not only revitalised a historic institution but have set a new cultural standard for public art spaces across India.
