Davangere man among victims in horrific crash near Kumarapatnam bypass; police launch investigation
Haveri: Two people lost their lives and another sustained serious injuries when a private car collided head-on with a transport bus near the bypass road in Kumarapatnam village, located in Ranebennur taluk of Haveri district.
The deceased have been identified as Praveen (36), a resident of Davangere, and one unidentified individual whose details are yet to be confirmed. The injured, Kottesha Abalu, is currently battling for his life at a private hospital in Davangere after sustaining multiple injuries in the crash.
“The car was crushed beyond recognition. It was a terrifying scene. Locals rushed to rescue the victims before the ambulance arrived,” said an eyewitness who was present at the scene shortly after the incident.
Collision on the Bypass: How It Happened
According to preliminary reports, a transport bus belonging to NWKRTC, travelling from Athani to Davangere, collided head-on with a speeding car on the Kumarapatnam bypass, leading to the fatal mishap. The intensity of the crash resulted in the instant death of the two passengers in the car.
A police officer at the scene stated, “We are investigating whether the accident was caused by rash driving, fatigue, or a mechanical failure.”
A case has been registered at Kumarapatnam Police Station, and further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.

This tragic incident adds to a string of deadly accidents reported on Karnataka’s bypass roads, raising questions about road safety, speed monitoring, and highway patrolling standards. Local residents are demanding speed breakers and warning signboards to curb reckless driving in the area.
