Reckless hooliganism on NH-48 raises alarm among commuters; public demands urgent police action against drug-fueled stunts

Bengaluru: In a disturbing incident that highlights the growing menace of drug-fueled hooliganism on Karnataka’s highways, three youths under the influence of ganja (marijuana) were caught on camera performing dangerous wheeling stunts and misbehaving on the busy Tumakuru Road (NH-48) near Nelamangala.

The video, now widely circulated on social media, was reportedly recorded by a local goon who was riding alongside them. In the footage, one of the youths is seen showing the middle finger, behaving aggressively toward onlookers, while another rider attempts to cover the vehicle’s number plate, indicating an intention to hide their identity.

“These boys are playing with their lives and ours. Their madness has gone too far. Every day, we fear for our safety,” said Rajanna, a commuter who regularly travels on this highway stretch.

According to eyewitnesses, the trio appeared intoxicated and had little regard for traffic norms or public safety. They were seen recklessly riding at high speeds, swerving between vehicles, and performing stunts, a dangerous mix of substance abuse and toxic thrill-seeking.

Ganja Gang Culture Rising on Highways?

Residents of Nelamangala and nearby areas are now voicing growing concern over the rise in substance-fueled stunts and youth hooliganism on the highway.

“It’s becoming a daily sight — these so-called ‘ganja boys’ risking lives and disturbing the peace. They laugh, shout, and abuse others. When will this stop?” asked an angry shopkeeper near the highway toll plaza.

Police sources confirm they are aware of the video and are using surveillance and traffic cam footage to identify and arrest the offenders.

A Call for Action

This incident adds to a growing list of reckless highway behavior that not only violates traffic laws but also endangers the lives of innocent motorists and pedestrians. Local authorities are being urged to conduct strict patrols, especially during late evenings and weekends, when such incidents are most frequent.
