“Ukraine Strikes Back!” Kiev Confirms Destruction of Russian Underwater Bridge in Explosive Counteroffensive

1,100 Kg Explosives Used in Stealth Operation; Over 40 Russian Warplanes Hit in Drone Blitzkrieg

Kiev: In a dramatic escalation of its counteroffensive, Ukraine has claimed responsibility for the destruction of a critical Russian underwater bridge linking mainland Russia to the annexed Crimean Peninsula, in what is being hailed as a precision-engineered, months-in-the-making sabotage mission by Ukraine's SBU intelligence agency.

"This is not just a strike — it's a message. Crimea is not out of reach."
declared the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in an official statement released Tuesday morning.

According to the SBU, 1,100 kilograms (2,420 pounds) of explosives were strategically deployed to target the bridge’s underwater support pillars, striking a massive blow to one of Russia’s most vital military logistics routes.

“Previously, we attacked the Crimean Bridge twice — in 2022 and 2023. Today, we continued this tradition underwater.”
said the SBU, which also released video footage showing a massive underwater explosion shaking the structural base of the bridge.

Target: Russia’s Lifeline to Crimea

This underwater bridge has been a key arterial route for Russian supply chains, moving troops, ammunition, and resources between Russia and the occupied Crimean Peninsula. The new strike is being viewed as a major strategic disruption to Moscow’s operations in southern Ukraine.

The explosives were precisely timed and remotely triggered, according to Ukrainian sources, suggesting the operation had been in planning for months, involving extensive underwater surveillance and technical precision.

Russia Responds: Silence and Shutdown

While Russian state sources initially remained silent, reports later acknowledged that the bridge’s operations were suspended from 4 am to 7 am local time, without offering an official reason.

“Operations were suspended for about three hours... The bridge is now open and functioning normally,”
Russian officials stated, downplaying the incident but not denying the strike.

Drone War Intensifies: Over 40 Russian Warplanes Destroyed in Separate Strike

Ukraine’s underwater bridge sabotage was not the only major blow delivered this week. On Sunday, Ukrainian forces launched “Spider’s Web” kamikaze drones to target remote Russian airfields across Siberia, achieving what analysts call the largest aerial hit on Russian aviation assets since the war began.

Destroyed in the attack:

  • Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 long-range bombers (nuclear-capable)

  • Dozens of fighter jets

  • One advanced A-50 airborne warning aircraft

Ukrainian military insiders have claimed over 40 Russian aircraft were rendered inoperable, if not completely destroyed. Satellite imagery is currently being analysed to verify the extent of the damage.

Strategic Blow or Psychological Warfare?

This double-pronged strike — on infrastructure and air power — is widely seen as a strategic statement from Kiev in response to Russia’s intensified summer offensive.

"We are not just defending — we are reclaiming the skies and cutting the supply chains,"
said a senior Ukrainian defence official, anonymously.

Global Implications Mount

Military analysts worldwide say these moves signal that Ukraine’s intelligence and drone capabilities have reached new heights, and Russian military operations deep within its borders are no longer safe.

Western nations, meanwhile, are closely watching for signs of escalation, as fears grow over Russia’s potential retaliation following back-to-back humiliating defeats.
