Vijay Rupani’s “Lucky Number” 1206 Becomes His Death Date: A Haunting Coincidence That Stunned Gujarat

News Flash
13 June

From his first scooter to the seat on his last flight, 1206 followed him through life — and ultimately, into death

Gandhinagar: Fate has its own twisted poetry. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who perished in the Air India AI-171 plane crash near Ahmedabad, met his end on a date that carried deep personal significance — June 12th, the number he had considered lucky throughout his life: 1206.

This isn’t just a strange coincidence — it's a story that has left people shaken, wondering if this was destiny, fate, or a cruel cosmic irony.

“1206 was more than a number for him. It was a belief, a symbol, a charm that never failed him — until now,” said a close aide of Rupani, unable to hold back tears.

A Number That Followed Him Everywhere — Until the End

For Vijay Rupani, 1206 wasn’t just digits — it was a part of his identity.

  • His first scooter, which he rode during his early RSS and BJP days, had the registration number GJX 1206.

  • His first car, a modest white Ambassador gifted by party workers, bore the same number — 1206.

  • Even his official vehicle during his tenure as CM had a special 1206 series registration — a number approved personally.

  • His staff confirm that his email ID, password hints, diary entries, and even locker codes often featured “1206.”

And now, shockingly:

  • His final boarding time at Ahmedabad airport was 12:10 pm.

  • His seat number on the doomed flight: 12.

  • The date of the crash that took his life: 12-06-2025.

"He Lived by This Number — And Died on It"

“It’s eerie. This number gave him everything — political power, peace, and purpose. No one thought it would become his death date,” said a senior BJP leader.

Vijay Rupani was travelling to London to meet his wife, Anjali Rupani and daughter Radhika. He boarded the AI-171 Dreamliner and occupied seat number 12. Barely 30 seconds after takeoff, the plane suffered an engine failure and crashed into a residential area near Meghaninagar, killing 241 out of 242 onboard, including Rupani.

The only survivor — a British-Indian national, Ramesh Vishwas Kumar — was sitting in seat 11A, just one row away.

"I was in 11A. When I got up, everything was fire and bodies. I couldn’t believe I was alive," Ramesh said, now recovering in Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

A Political Life Marked by 1206

Born in Yangon, Myanmar, in 1956, Vijay Rupani’s political rise was seen as guided by destiny. From Rajkot Municipal Corporation in 1987 to becoming Gujarat CM in 2016, he often told reporters:

“1206 ne mujhe har baar jeet dilayi hai” (1206 has always helped me win).

In 2014, when he entered the Gujarat Assembly, the date of his oath-taking was also, you guessed it 12/06.

To this day, both his scooter and first Ambassador car bearing 1206 are parked at his Rajkot residence, now turned into a shrine of remembrance.

A Nation Mourns, A Number Echoes

With Rupani's passing, the BJP, the state of Gujarat, and millions of admirers have been left devastated. The eerie recurrence of 1206 has sent shockwaves through political circles and social media, where the number is now being dubbed “the number that wrote his fate.”

“Woh jeet ke raja the, aur 1206 unka taaj. Aaj woh chale gaye, apne hi taaj ke din,” said a teary-eyed BJP worker in Gandhinagar.
