Bengaluru Woman Kills Infant Daughter by Poisoning Tea After Fight With Husband

26-year-old mother Chandrika charged with murder after administering rat poison to 1.8-year-old daughter Charvi, attempts suicide but survives

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident that unfolded in Thigalarapalya under the Byadarahalli police station limits, a domestic dispute between husband and wife took a tragic turn when a 1.8-year-old child lost her life. The mother, Chandrika (26), allegedly poisoned her daughter and attempted suicide after a quarrel with her husband.

Poison Mixed in Tea

Following a heated argument over financial issues, Chandrika reportedly decided to end her life and that of her daughter. When her husband Yogesh, a garment factory worker, had gone to work, she mixed rat poison with tea and gave it to her infant daughter Charvi. She then consumed the same poisoned tea herself.

Desperate Call to Husband

After administering the poison, Chandrika called her husband and informed him about the act. Yogesh's mother rushed to the scene and attempted to save the child by taking her to the hospital. However, Charvi succumbed without responding to treatment, while Chandrika survived the suicide attempt.

“The child was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state and could not be revived,” said a source familiar with the case.

Murder Case Registered

The Byadarahalli police have registered a case of murder against Chandrika under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and motives leading up to the crime.

Police sources said that domestic tensions and financial stress may have led to the tragic decision, but the deliberate nature of poisoning the child has led to serious legal consequences for the mother.

Community in Shock

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with neighbours expressing disbelief at how a family dispute turned into a fatal tragedy for an innocent child.

Authorities have urged families to seek counselling and support during domestic crises instead of resorting to extreme measures.
