BBMP Chief Commissioner urges swift resolution of land acquisition and TDR-related issues to accelerate road widening and High-Density Corridor projects in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to swiftly resolve issues related to Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) in connection with ongoing road widening projects across Bengaluru. He also emphasized the need to expedite land acquisition to ensure timely completion of critical infrastructure works.

Speaking at a progress review meeting held at the BBMP headquarters, Rao reviewed the performance of the Road Infrastructure Department and highlighted the importance of completing the works within stipulated timelines. The Chief Commissioner called for a focused and action-oriented approach.

Pending Road Widening Projects and TDR Issues

Out of the 16 road widening projects currently underway in the city, only two have been fully completed. For the remaining projects where TDR-related disputes persist, Maheshwar Rao instructed officials to initiate discussions with property owners and find immediate resolutions.

"Hold talks with affected property owners and resolve TDR disputes on priority. Infrastructure delays cannot continue because of avoidable acquisition issues," Rao said.

He also directed officials to prepare a comprehensive status report, clearly outlining the number of properties for which TDRs have been issued, the number of pending acquisitions, and the estimated financial requirement to complete these acquisitions.

Action Plan for Junction Development

The Chief Commissioner called for the adoption of a holistic strategy for the development of major traffic junctions across Bengaluru. Rao stressed that the improvement of junctions must be planned with an integrated approach to ensure smoother movement of both vehicles and pedestrians.

He instructed that junction redesigns be implemented within a fixed timeframe, balancing traffic efficiency with pedestrian safety and urban aesthetics.

Accelerate High-Density Corridor Projects

Highlighting the significance of the ongoing High-Density Corridor (HDC) projects along Bengaluru’s outer ring roads, Maheshwar Rao asked officials to accelerate the work and ensure timely delivery. These corridors are aimed at reducing congestion and improving traffic flow on some of the city’s most crowded stretches.

Officials were asked to monitor progress closely and address any bottlenecks proactively to avoid delays.

Senior Officials Present

The review meeting was attended by Special Commissioners Karegowda and Dr. K. Harish Kumar, Chief Engineer Lokesh, Superintendent Engineer Hemalatha, Executive Engineers, and other key officials. Each department was directed to maintain regular coordination to ensure seamless execution of infrastructure initiatives.
