Former Deputy CM Govind Karajol Accuses Karnataka Government of Political Conspiracy; Demands Immediate Action on SC Internal Quota

Bengaluru: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its stand on internal reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs), announcing a statewide protest movement from August 1 if the Karnataka government fails to act by the end of July.

Speaking at a press conference at the BJP State Office, Jagannath Bhavan, on Thursday, former Deputy Chief Minister and MP Govind Karajol strongly criticised the Congress-led Siddaramaiah government for delaying the implementation of internal reservations.

“Many states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Haryana have already implemented internal reservations. But the Karnataka government continues to delay it, raising suspicion of a deliberate conspiracy,”
Govind Karajol, BJP MP and Former Dy. CM

Karajol reminded the media that the previous BJP government under Basavaraj Bommai had already laid the groundwork by forming a committee headed by then Law Minister J.C. Madhuswamy to create a policy framework for internal reservations.

He accused the current administration of playing vote bank politics and misleading the people by forming the Justice Nagamohan Das committee, which he claimed was aimed at creating confusion rather than clarity.

“Instead of continuing what was already planned and proposed, the Congress government is indulging in tactics to delay and derail the process for political gain,”
Karajol added

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, A. Narayanaswamy, also criticized the state government's caste survey methodology, calling it flawed and deceptive.

“Enumerators marked homes as ‘surveyed’ even when no survey had been conducted. This is not just mismanagement — it’s manipulation,”
A. Narayanaswamy, Union Minister

The BJP plans to launch statewide protests across all districts starting August 1 if the Siddaramaiah government fails to take decisive action on internal reservation for Scheduled Castes by the end of July.

The issue of internal reservation, particularly within the SC communities, has long been a point of political contention in Karnataka, with growing calls for proportional distribution of benefits based on sub-caste demographics.
