Bengaluru AAP files complaint with State Women’s Commission; calls for Ravikumar’s removal from Legislative Council and Chief Whip post over ‘insulting’ remarks
Bengaluru: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly condemned the controversial remarks made by MLC and Chief Whip N. Ravikumar against State Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, terming them as a gross insult to women officers and womanhood at large.
Speaking after submitting a formal complaint to the State Women’s Commission, Anjana Gowda, Bengaluru City Secretary of AAP, said:
“Ravikumar is not fit to be in a civil society. His derogatory statement against a senior woman IAS officer undermines the dignity of not just officers like Shalini Rajneesh, but of every woman in this country.”
‘A Vile Presence in the Legislative Council’
Anjana Gowda described the Legislative Council as the think tank of Karnataka, and said the continued presence of someone like Ravikumar as Chief Whip is an insult to democracy.
“The presence of such a vile person in the Legislative Council and in the post of Chief Whip is a blot on the system. He must be removed immediately for the sake of institutional integrity and public respect.”
She told reporters.
Formal Complaint and Demands
AAP’s complaint to the State Women’s Commission Chairperson included the following key demands:
-
Immediate removal of N. Ravikumar from the post of Chief Whip
-
Expulsion from the Karnataka Legislative Council
-
Directions to the Police Department to initiate strict legal action
The complaint asserts that such remarks from a person in a constitutional office set a dangerous precedent and violate the norms of public accountability and gender respect.
Background of the Controversy
While the specific remarks made by Ravikumar have not been officially disclosed, sources indicate that they were derogatory in nature and directed at Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, one of the senior-most women IAS officers in Karnataka.
The controversy has sparked a backlash from both political and civil society, with calls for immediate disciplinary and legal action.
