New Delhi: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has been arrested for allegedly robbing a jewellery shop in Delhi's Farsh Bazaar area using a toy gun.
The accused, identified as Gaurav Yadav, is 22 years old and had been recently posted with the BSF in Fazilka, Punjab.
Robbery Planned During Train Change, Claims Police
According to Shahdara Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prashant Gautam, Yadav had reported for duty at the BSF camp in Fazilka on June 18, but soon went on leave and travelled to Delhi.
“He hatched the plan while waiting for a train during a changeover,” said DCP Prashant Gautam in an official statement.
On June 19, the very next day, Yadav allegedly entered a jewellery shop in Farsh Bazaar armed with what appeared to be a pistol, but was later confirmed to be a toy gun. He stole four gold bracelets and fled the scene.
Accused Confesses; Investigation Underway
Following the incident, the Delhi Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Based on CCTV footage and other evidence, Gaurav Yadav was identified and arrested. During interrogation, he confessed to the robbery.
“A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC at Farsh Bazaar police station. The toy gun has also been recovered,” said the DCP.
Security Forces on Alert Over Rising Insider Crimes
The arrest of a serving BSF personnel has sparked internal concern about disciplinary lapses and mental health among new recruits.
While the BSF has not yet issued a public statement, the case is expected to prompt a review of leave protocols and psychological screening procedures during training and deployment.
