Kalaburagi Murder Case Mirrors Renukaswamy Killing; Three Arrested in Shocking Crime of Jealousy and Revenge

Victim Lured by Ex-Partner, Murdered and Dumped in Krishna River; Live-in Relationship Turns Fatal

Kalaburagi: In a chilling case reminiscent of the Renukaswamy murder, Kalaburagi Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the brutal killing of a man whose body was found dumped in the Krishna River near Shaktinagar, Raichur. The case, initially registered as an unnatural death, has now unravelled into a cold-blooded murder driven by personal betrayal and vengeance.

Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa S.D. revealed on Monday that the breakthrough came after Surekha, a resident of Kalaburagi, filed a complaint at the Station Bazaar Police Station stating that her husband Raghavendra had been missing for two months.

Timeline of the Crime

  • March 2025: Raichur police recover a male body from the Krishna River, but the deceased remains unidentified.

  • Following the missing person complaint, Inspector Shakeel Angadi initiated a deeper probe into Raghavendra’s disappearance.

  • Investigation reveals that Raghavendra was in a live-in relationship with a woman named Ashwini, also known as Tanu.

  • Later, Ashwini allegedly left Raghavendra and started a new relationship with Gururaj.

  • Upset by her new relationship, Raghavendra reportedly began harassing Ashwini, demanding she return to him.

  • Ashwini informed Gururaj, who then conspired with his friend Laxmikant to eliminate Raghavendra.

The Murder Plot and Execution

On March 12, Ashwini invited Raghavendra to meet her near a supermarket in Kalaburagi, under the pretext of a conversation. Unaware of the trap, he arrived at the location, where he was abducted by Ashwini, Gururaj, and Laxmikant.

The trio allegedly took him to a crematorium near Krishna Nagar, where they brutally attacked him, reportedly targeting his private parts, leading to his death.

They then transported his body over 150 km to Raichur and disposed of it in the Krishna River near Shaktinagar, hoping to mislead authorities and erase traces of the crime.

Arrests and Investigations

Following intensive tracking and interrogation, police successfully arrested all three accused in Kalaburagi city. The investigation has revealed premeditation, use of deception, and a deliberate attempt to mislead law enforcement by disposing of the body in a different district.

"The motive was personal; the accused tried to cover their tracks by disposing of the body in Raichur. Their plan was to confuse jurisdictional police," said a senior officer involved in the probe.

Comparisons to Renukaswamy Case

The modus operandi and personal motive behind this murder have drawn eerie parallels with the Renukaswamy murder, which also involved relationship conflicts, pre-planned abduction, and targeted assault. The level of cruelty, especially the attack on the victim’s private parts, highlights the deeply personal and violent nature of the crime.

Legal Action Ahead

The three accused, Ashwini alias Tanu, Gururaj, and Laxmikant, are currently in police custody, and are expected to face charges under Sections 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is underway to determine if others were involved or had knowledge of the crime.
