Joint Action Committee Calls Protest Against CM’s 'Negative Attitude' Toward Staff Demands; Indefinite Strike Planned from August 5

Bengaluru: The Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporations has announced a state-level mass hunger strike at Freedom Park, Bengaluru, on July 30, 2025, as a mark of protest against the Karnataka Government’s "completely negative attitude" toward the demands of transport employees.

The protest, scheduled from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, is being organised as a final warning to the government ahead of a planned indefinite strike starting August 5, 2025.

Employee Discontent Peaks After July 4 Meeting with CM

The decision to hold the hunger strike follows a meeting with the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, held on July 4, 2025, which union representatives described as unsatisfactory and dismissive of key staff issues. The transport employees allege that the CM showed "complete disregard" for their longstanding demands regarding working conditions, pay structure, and welfare benefits.

“All transport employees are outraged by the completely negative attitude shown by Siddaramaiah. The July 30 hunger strike is our final warning,”
stated B. Jantha (B. Jayadevaraj), Convenor of the Joint Action Committee, in an official invitation sent to the media.

Mass Mobilisation Expected at Freedom Park

Leaders from key transport unions affiliated with AITUC, CITU, and other federations representing KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and NEKRTC employees will take part in the protest. Union members from across Karnataka are expected to converge in Freedom Park for the demonstration.

The participating organisations include:

  • KSRTC Staff and Workers Federation (AITUC)

  • All Karnataka State Road Transport Employees' Federation

  • Karnataka State Road Transport Employees' Federation (CITU)

  • KSRTC P.J.A. and P.P. Employees' Association (40/78)

  • State Road Transport Corporation P.J.A./P.P. Officers and Employees' Welfare Development Association (R)

  • Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Employees' Association (R)

Media Urged to Cover the Protest

In the letter addressed to News Editors and Chief Reporters, the Joint Action Committee has urged media houses to send reporters and news crews to cover the mass hunger strike on July 30.

“Active leaders of transport workers’ unions from every corner of the state will participate. We request full media coverage to highlight our legitimate concerns.”
The committee added.

The indefinite strike, if not resolved in time, is expected to disrupt public transport services across Karnataka, affecting lakhs of daily commuters.
