Karnataka Home Minister Defends Kharge’s Authority, Comments on Dharmasthala SIT Probe, Fertiliser Crisis, Stampede Case, and Online Harassment of Actress Ramya
Bengaluru: Amid political speculations, Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara has extended strong support to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, asserting that he holds a crucial position in the party and has every right to make decisions regarding leadership in the state.
Speaking to the media in Bengaluru today, Parameshwara downplayed criticism around Kharge’s recent political statements, asserting that Kharge’s experience and seniority warrant respect.
“Mallikarjun Kharge is in a crucial position in our party. He is the one who decides who will become the Chief Minister. If he says he will enter state politics, no one needs to feel wrong,”
said Dr. G. Parameshwara.
“There is nothing wrong with his statement. He is a senior, capable of all posts. Those who speak against him have not reached his level. What is wrong if he says he will come to the state?”
he questioned.
SIT Investigation in Dharmasthala Case is Serious and Unhindered
On the ongoing Dharmasthala mass cremation case, Parameshwara confirmed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is taking the case seriously and that there will be no political interference in the investigation process.
“The SIT officials are taking the case seriously and are investigating it thoroughly. None of us will interfere.”
He assured.
Stampede Case: Officer Suspensions Withdrawn, But Probe to Continue
Addressing the recent stampede incident, Parameshwara confirmed that the suspension of police officers has been revoked following a Cabinet decision, but made it clear that the investigation will proceed.
“The suspension is an administrative decision taken at the Cabinet meeting. But this doesn’t mean the investigation will stop,”
he said.
On the matter of Police Commissioner B. Dayanand, he stated:
“He will not be reappointed as Commissioner. A parallel post will be allotted,”
Parameshwara clarified.
Fertilizer Shortage: Early Monsoon to Blame, Black Market to Be Curbed
Responding to BJP’s allegations over a fertilizer shortage, the Home Minister cited an early monsoon as a major factor for the spike in demand. He added that the Agriculture Minister has instructed strict action against black marketing of fertilizers.
“The monsoon arrived early this year. That’s why demand has gone up. The Center must ensure timely delivery of fertilizers. The sale in black market is being curbed,”
he said.
Online Harassment of Actress Ramya: Matter Being Taken Seriously
On the issue of derogatory messages aimed at former MP and actress Ramya, Parameshwara took a firm stand, emphasizing that such incidents must not be allowed.
“The matter must be taken seriously. What happened to Ramya today, can happen to others tomorrow. This must be curbed,”
he stated.
He added that Bengaluru City Police Commissioner will be instructed to act, and he himself will follow up to ensure accountability.
“I will instruct the Commissioner. These things should not happen in our society,”
Parameshwara assured.
