Dharmasthala Mass Burial Case Debris Found at 11th Site, SIT Intensifies Search Amid Grave Allegations

Excavation Enters Day 6 as Human Remains Suspected at New Location; FSL Analysis Awaited on Earlier Skeleton Discovery

Mangaluru: In a major development in the ongoing Dharmasthala mass cremation case, debris believed to be human remains has reportedly been found at the 11th location identified by the complainant, though the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has not yet issued an official confirmation. The discovery has intensified speculation amid public and media scrutiny, as the excavation enters its sixth consecutive day in the dense forests surrounding Netravati Snanaghatta near Dharmasthala.

Two Sacks of Salt Raise Eyebrows at New Dig Site
On Sunday, labourers were seen carrying two sacks of salt to the site marked as point number 11. This led to speculation that skeletal remains or other human debris might have been unearthed, although the SIT has remained silent on the discovery so far. Salt is typically used in preserving or sanitizing exhumed remains, adding further intrigue to the ongoing operations.

SIT Focused on Points 11 and 12 in Dense Forest Terrain
According to sources, the SIT excavation teams, operating under intense secrecy and surveillance, are now working around points 11 and 12 in the thickly wooded region. Despite the challenging terrain, the investigation has gained momentum, with authorities under pressure from the public and media to provide concrete updates.

No Skeletons Found at Earlier Sites 9 and 10
On Saturday, excavation efforts using heavy machinery dug to a depth of 8 feet at sites numbered 9 and 10. However, no skeletal remains were recovered from those locations, deepening the mystery surrounding the claims.

“A total of 13 burial sites were pointed out by the witness. So far, skeletal remains, including fragments of a skull, two teeth, and bones, have been found only at one site,” said a source involved in the investigation.

Skeleton Fragments Sent to FSL in Manipal
The partial remains discovered earlier—a broken skull, bones, and two teeth—have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Manipal for forensic examination. The results are expected to shed light on the time of death, identity, and possible cause of death of the deceased, which could prove pivotal in confirming or refuting the mass burial allegations.

Mass Cremation Allegations Shake State and Nation
The sensational case came to light when a complaint was filed at Dharmasthala Police Station on July 4, alleging that hundreds of bodies had been secretly buried in and around Dharmasthala village. The claims led to a statewide uproar, prompting the Karnataka state government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on July 19.

Background of the Case
The complainant, whose identity remains undisclosed, has reportedly provided detailed accounts of 13 separate burial locations, leading the SIT to commence a massive, multi-day excavation operation. This case has not only sparked a media storm but also triggered serious concerns about human rights violations, if proven true.
