Revised Regulations Provide Hope for Couples Facing Fertility Challenges |
New Delhi: The central government changed the surrogacy rules, allowing married couples dealing with health issues to consider surrogacy for starting a family. This update, announced officially on Wednesday, brings relief to many couples facing infertility because of health problems.
According to the new rules, couples can now ask for surrogacy help if one spouse is certified to have health issues by the District Medical Board. This certification is needed to get approval for pursuing surrogacy, giving hope to those who couldn't access assisted reproductive options before.
The change also deals with concerns about donor assistance in surrogacy. Earlier, the government banned donors from helping couples seeking surrogacy in March 2023. But after criticism and legal challenges, the ban has been lifted, allowing eligible couples to access donor assistance again.
