Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP has strongly criticized the Congress government for its decision to grant Rs 15 lakh compensation to the family of a man who tragically lost his life in an elephant attack in Kerala's Wayanad.
BJP state President B.Y. Vijayendra condemned the move, labeling it as a "shameful" attempt to appease Rahul Gandhi, the Member of Parliament for Wayanad.
In a statement shared on social media on Monday night, Vijayendra expressed outrage at the alleged misuse of Karnataka taxpayers' funds for political gain. He accused the Congress government of allocating state funds to a deceased individual from Rahul Gandhi's constituency, falsely implicating an elephant from Karnataka in the incident.
Vijayendra highlighted the pressing issues facing Karnataka, such as crippling drought and farmer suicides, accusing the Congress government of prioritizing political agendas over the state's urgent needs.
He called for accountability from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his administration, accusing them of unethical use of state funds to appease the Congress high command.
The compensation announcement came from Karnataka Minister for Forests B. Eshwar Khandre, following the tragic incident involving Ajeesh, who lost his life to an elephant trampling in Wayanad.
The elephant involved, named 'Makna,' was captured in Karnataka's Hassan district and later relocated to the Bandipur Tiger reserve. However, it was subsequently sighted in the Wayanad area of Kerala, Rahul Gandhi's parliamentary constituency, adding fuel to the political controversy.
