Chamarajanagar: The residents of Palar Beat small Village in Kollegala Taluk, Chamarajanagar District, Karnataka, continue to endure unimaginable hardships due to the absence of electricity, even 75 years after independence.

In a forested area of Kollegala Taluk, nearly 80 impoverished households in this village lack access to electricity. The government's neglect has plunged them into perpetual darkness, forcing them to rely on chimneys and battery-powered flashlights for daily activities.

These families were relocated from the forest to the riverbank years ago, amid suspicions of aiding notorious forest brigand Veerappan. However, since their resettlement in Palar village, the state government has failed to provide even the most basic amenities.

With darkness shrouding their homes and the constant threat of wild animals, children struggle to study without electricity, using small battery-powered lights for exam preparation. In dire situations, families resort to lighting fires outside their homes for illumination.

Despite electricity poles standing just 100 meters away, Palar village remains isolated without a connection. While some NGOs have attempted to provide solar solutions, these efforts have been short-lived, leaving the village in darkness for many years.
