Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy Unveils Comprehensive Plans to Revitalize Sirsi's Public Transportation Network
Sirsi: Ramalinga Reddy,Minister of Transport of Karnataka revealed plans to resume all bus routes of the transport organization in the City, which were halted during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After visiting Marikamba temple on Monday, Reddy addressed reporters, noting free travel for women under Shakti Yojana. Acknowledging rural schoolchildren's bus access challenges, the government plans to acquire a long-delayed bus and add 200 more buses to the North-West Transport Corporation's fleet.
He also addressed the shortage of drivers and operators, which was exacerbated by the recruitment of 14,000 personnel in 2016. To mitigate this shortage, the government has outsourced the hiring of 9,000 individuals.
Regarding the introduction of electric buses, Reddy mentioned that despite a tender being issued for 350 electric buses, no bids were received. Nevertheless, the government remains committed to exploring further opportunities in this regard.
Furthermore, plans are underway to address staffing shortages at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and to complete the construction of the new Sirsi Old Bus Stand by the end of May. The issue of space constraints in Siddapur is also being addressed as part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve transportation infrastructure in the region.
