Arrest Comes Ahead of Supreme Court Bail Hearing

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday night in connection with the alleged excise policy scam, sources said. This arrest comes ahead of the Supreme Court's hearing on his bail in the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) money laundering case.

The CBI examined Kejriwal in Tihar Jail on Monday and recorded his statement regarding the excise policy case. They also obtained permission to produce Kejriwal before the concerned trial court on Wednesday.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh commented on the situation, stating, "At a time when there is a cent per cent possibility that Arvind Kejriwal will get bail from the Supreme Court, sources have informed me that the Centre is conspiring to register a fake CBI case against the Delhi CM and get him arrested. The entire nation can see this and is standing in solidarity with Arvind Kejriwal."

Earlier on Tuesday, the Delhi High Court stayed the trial court's order granting bail to Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam. The High Court stated that the trial court's order "reflects perversity" and did not "appropriately appreciate" the material presented by the ED.
