BBMP Takes Stringent Measures To Combat Dengue Outbreak

Bengaluru: To tackle the rising cases of dengue in Bengaluru, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has directed officials to implement a comprehensive micro plan across the city on Friday. Highlighting on preventive measures, Nath urged citizens to take proactive steps to control mosquito breeding.

As part of the initiative, the corporation has initiated a "Dry Day" campaign zone-wise. Recently, GM Palya of East Zone and New Thippasandra were inspected to oversee awareness activities aimed at residents. The campaign focuses on educating citizens about the breeding habitats of Aedes and Aegypti mosquitoes, responsible for transmitting dengue.

Residents have been advised to diligently check and empty water storage containers such as sumps, drums, and flower pots weekly to prevent stagnant water that facilitates mosquito breeding. Nath stressed the importance of replacing stagnant water to prevent larvae from breeding, highlighting that standing water for over a week is conducive to mosquito multiplication.

In addition to door-to-door awareness campaigns conducted by Asha workers, Nath highlighted the use of larvicide spraying to target mosquito breeding sites effectively. He underscored the importance of entering comprehensive survey data into the Frism-H software daily to track and prevent dengue outbreaks effectively.

Highlighting the corporation's efforts, Zonal Commissioners, Joint Commissioners, and Health Officers have actively supervised the "Dry Day" operations across eight zones. Special Commissioner of the Health Department personally inspected operations in Mahalakshmi Layout, underscoring the seriousness with which BBMP is addressing the dengue threat.

Further reinforcing awareness efforts, Nath instructed the installation of loudspeakers on autos in high-risk areas to disseminate information about dengue prevention measures effectively.
