Karnataka's First Short-Term Shelter for AFAB Queer & Transmasculine Community Inaugurated

Bengaluru: In a significant development for the LGBTQIA+ community, Karnataka’s first short-term shelter home catering specifically to the AFAB (Assigned Female at Birth) Queer & Transmasculine community and individuals with intersex variations is set to be inaugurated on Saturday at Natyapriya's Nruthyakshetra by Raahi.

Raahi, A Journey towards Dignity, an organization dedicated to LGBTQIA+ rights, announced the initiative during a media briefing at the press club on Thursday. Executive Director Suchitra KK and Program Manager Nathaan Madhavi highlighted the shelter’s mission to offer safe accommodation for 8 to 10 individuals, with a maximum stay of 60 days. The facility aims to provide a supportive environment where residents can access comprehensive care, including round-the-clock support, mental health services, and essential resources.

The inauguration event will also feature cultural programs celebrating the talents and resilience of community members, underscoring Raahi's commitment to fostering dignity and inclusivity.
