Role Recast Following Darshan's Incarceration for Murder

Bengaluru: With actor Darshan jailed for the murder of Renuka Swamy, the lead role in the biopic 'Gandugali Madakari Nayaka' has reportedly been recast, with Sudeep stepping in. Darshan, who had secured the role in 2019, saw the project stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and budget concerns from producer Rockline Venkatesh.

The film, directed by Rajendra Singh Babu, depicts the life of historical figure Madakari Nayaka. Initially, there was competition between Darshan and Sudeep for the role, but Darshan was ultimately cast. However, following Darshan's legal issues, Sudeep, who previously portrayed Veera Madakari in a remake, is now expected to take on the role.

Sudeep, who has shown a strong interest in the character, is rumored to be a near-final choice for the part, sparking significant discussion in Gandhinagar.
