Modi Praises Putin's Leadership and Advocates for Confluence in Global Relations
Moscow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Indian diaspora in Moscow on Tuesday, reaffirmed Russia's significance as India's "all-weather friend" and commended President Vladimir Putin's role in strengthening bilateral ties over the past two decades.
Modi's remarks come amidst international efforts by Western powers to isolate President Putin over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. "On hearing the word Russia, the first word that comes to mind of every Indian is India's all-weather friend (sukh-dukh ka saathi) and a trusted ally," Modi stated.
He emphasized the enduring warmth in the India-Russia relationship despite the harsh Russian winters, attributing this bond to mutual trust and respect. Modi expressed gratitude towards President Putin for elevating the India-Russia friendship to new heights.
Reflecting on global dynamics, Modi advocated for a shift from an influence-oriented to a confluence-oriented global order, highlighting India's cultural ethos of embracing confluences. He asserted India's role in global transformation, citing rapid developmental strides over the past decade driven by the confidence of its 1.4 billion citizens.
"Today's India is full of self-confidence, unlike before 2014, and this confidence is our greatest asset," Modi affirmed, underscoring his government's ambitious goals for national growth and prosperity.
The Prime Minister outlined key aspirations, including positioning India as the world's third-largest economy, providing housing for three crore impoverished families, and empowering three crore rural women to achieve financial independence.
Modi celebrated India's technological advancements, such as the Chandrayaan mission to the moon and pioneering models for digital transactions, positioning the country for accelerated development in the years ahead.
"In the next decade, we will witness even faster growth than the last ten years," Modi predicted, concluding his address amidst chants of support from the audience.
The Prime Minister's speech underscores India's deepening ties with Russia amid shifting global alliances and the nation's ambitious vision for future prosperity and global leadership.
