Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy Leads Recognition Event
Bengaluru: The Mahila Shakti initiative launched by the city's auto-hailing app
'Namma Yatri' has proven successful, generating Rs. 42 lakh in income for women
auto drivers to date.
Through this
initiative, women drivers have covered a cumulative distance of 4 lakh
kilometers using the app, achieving financial independence and earning respect
in the process.
A special
program held under the chairmanship of Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy recognized
and honored these women drivers. Addressing the event, Ramalinga Reddy highlighted
that by choosing to become auto drivers, these women are not only supporting
themselves financially but also challenging societal norms. Their presence on
the city's roads enhances urban mobility and contributes to creating a safer
and more inclusive environment for everyone.
The minister
reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting women drivers on their
journey to empowerment. He announced plans to offer various forms of
assistance, including free training programs covering electric auto driving,
traffic regulations, app usage, and customer service skills. Additionally,
support will be provided for obtaining licenses and accessing financial aid for
loans.
