IT professionals urge Karnataka government to reinstate suspended labor laws and improve working conditions

Bengaluru: St. Broseph Army, a social work organization founded by Dushyant Dubey, led a protest on Saturday at Freedom Park, advocating for the restoration of labor laws and better working conditions for IT and ITES workers. The protest focused on reversing labor law suspensions that have been in place for over a decade in Karnataka.

While speaking with News Flash, IT worker Chandan, said, "For too long, we have been denied rights granted to other industries under the guise of 'ease of business.' We are here to demand protections, including regulations for overtime, health insurance, layoffs, and timely salaries."

Restore labor laws for IT and ITES workers in Karnataka. For 10 years, we've lacked the protections that others take for granted. The recent five-year extension of this suspension shows the state government’s disregard for our well-being. We call on Labour Minister Santhosh Lad to cancel this circular and restore our rights. We are not mere cogs in the economic machine; we are human beings deserving dignity and protection, he said.

The protestors also advocated for the enactment of the Bharat IT Workers Act to introduce specific laws protecting the rights and well-being of India's large IT workforce, which operates under high demands without adequate legal safeguards.

The call for labor law reform highlights the growing concerns over the treatment and working conditions of IT professionals in the state.
