Effective management strategies and community engagement lead to successful flood prevention in the area

Bengaluru: Recent heavy rains in Bengaluru have highlighted a significant difference in flood management across various neighborhoods, especially Koramangala. A tweet from a local resident about the relief measures in Koramangala has garnered widespread attention.

The Resident Association met with the Ramalinga Reddy, Minister of Muzrai from Revenue Department of Karnatakaand thanked him for his work.

In the past, areas such as ST BED, Ejipura, Rajendra Nagar, National Games Village, and Venkateswara Barangay Madiwala experienced severe flooding, leading to waterlogged roads and residents unable to leave their homes. Many of these issues stemmed from poor town planning and encroachments on lakes.

In contrast, Koramangala has emerged as a model for effective flood management. During the unprecedented rains in 2024, many layouts in Bengaluru faced submersion, but Koramangala remained largely unaffected. Residents attribute this success to the efforts of Ramalinga Reddy, the local minister, who has focused on improving the drainage system and maintaining communication with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs).

Reddy’s initiatives include personal visits to each ward to address community issues, as well as systematic planning and implementation of drainage solutions. His approach has involved close collaboration with local RWAs to identify and address problems effectively.

The changes in Koramangala are viewed as a blueprint for other neighborhoods dealing with similar flooding challenges. Local residents expressed appreciation for Reddy’s work, emphasizing the importance of sustained efforts in infrastructure development and community engagement to prevent future flooding issues.
