CM Siddaramaiah Intervenes, Urges BMRCL to Review Fares

Bengaluru: The recent metro fare hike has frustrated daily commuters in Bengaluru, with many opting for private vehicles instead. In response to public concerns, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has intervened and spoken to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director M Mahabaleshwar Rao.

In a post on X, the CM stated that fare revisions have led to anomalies, with charges doubling on some routes. He has urged BMRCL to address these discrepancies and consider fare reductions to safeguard passenger interests.

Addressing political criticism, CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar countered BJP’s allegations, stating that metro projects operate on a 50:50 funding model between the state and central governments. They clarified that the fare revision decision was made by a committee appointed by the central government, headed by a High Court judge, and was not under state control.

The state government has requested BMRCL to reassess the fare structure, and further developments are awaited.
