Two Railway Projects Underway to Improve Connectivity in Karnataka
Chitradurga: The Tumkur-Davanagere direct rail line will be completed within two years, Union Minister and Tumkur MP V Somanna announced on Tuesday.
During a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Parliament House in New Delhi, Somanna discussed the railway project and requested approval for the proposal sent by the Railway Board for work between Thimmarajanahalli and Tavarekere, part of the Tumkur-Chitradurga-Davanagere railway line. Shah responded positively to the request.
Providing details about the project, Somanna stated that two railway projects are in progress, Tumkur-Davanagere (via Chitradurga) at a cost of ₹2,140 crore and Tumkur-Rayadurga at ₹2,500 crore. These projects aim to enhance Tumkur’s connectivity with other parts of Karnataka. The state government has been urged to expedite land acquisition for their timely completion.
The Tumkur-Davanagere line will reduce rail travel distance by 65 km, while the Tumkur-Rayadurga line will cut the Tumkur-Bellary distance by 130 km, improving connectivity to the Kalyan Karnataka region.
Somanna highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, railway infrastructure has expanded significantly, with the average cost of railway projects in Karnataka increasing nearly nine times in the past decade.
