Sasikala, a 31-year-old Housekeeper and Mother of Two, Dies Instantly as the Soaked Wall Gives Way at the Workplace

Bengaluru: In a tragic consequence of the relentless rains battering Bengaluru, a 31-year-old woman lost her life after a compound wall collapsed on her in Channasandra under the Mahadevpura police station limits early Monday morning.

The victim has been identified as Sasikala, a native of Shahapur, who worked as a housekeeper at the IZ Company located in Channasandra. The incident occurred around morning hours when she went to pick up a broom bucket near the wall, which had been soaked overnight due to incessant rains.

"The wall suddenly gave way and collapsed on her. She died on the spot before any help could arrive," said an officer from Mahadevapura Police Station who visited the scene.

A Life Crushed by Rain and Negligence

Sasikala, a daily wage worker, leaves behind her husband, who also works as a labourer, and their two small children. She had been working tirelessly to support her family, only to meet a heartbreaking end under a crumbling wall.

Locals allege that the wall, which reportedly had visible structural weaknesses, had not been repaired despite earlier complaints.

"The wall was damp and cracked. The rains made it worse. No one took action even after we raised concerns," a nearby resident said on condition of anonymity.

Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in Bengaluru

This tragic incident adds to the growing list of rain-related miseries in the city. Bengaluru has been experiencing intense rainfall for the past 48 hours, with areas like Mahadevapura, Horamavu, and Tannery Road already reporting flooded streets, clogged drains, and now a fatal accident.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Bengaluru recorded 103 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, making it one of the most rain-affected urban zones in Karnataka. A yellow alert remains in place for the next 48 hours.

"Urban infrastructure in Bengaluru is struggling to cope with the scale and intensity of this rainfall," said a senior IMD official speaking to News Flash.

Police and Civic Inaction Under Scrutiny

The Mahadevapura police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. However, angry locals and activists are calling for accountability from civic authorities and the company management.

"It is not just rain — it's negligence. This was preventable. Why was the wall not repaired? Who will answer to her children now?" questioned a member of a local workers’ rights NGO.

City’s Crumbling Infrastructure Now Claims Lives

Bengaluru’s booming tech corridors, often glamorized for their growth, hide within them a grim reality — unplanned infrastructure, neglected safety protocols, and vulnerable daily-wage workers paying the price with their lives.

Sasikala’s death has become yet another wake-up call for the BBMP and private establishments operating across Bengaluru.
