Positivity Rate Rises to 8.18% as Active Cases Reach 148; Health Department Urges Vigilance Amid Gradual Spike Since January 2025

Bengaluru: Karnataka is once again witnessing a worrisome rise in COVID-19 cases, with 42 new positive cases reported in the past 24 hours, pushing the total infection tally to 253 since the beginning of 2025. The state's Health Department has sounded a cautious alert, especially with the positivity rate rising to 8.18% and mortality creeping to 2.3%.

In a fresh blow to the state’s low fatality record, one COVID-related death was reported today—only the second death since January 2025, bringing the total death toll this year to two. Officials have emphasised that while the fatality count remains low, the recent spike in daily cases calls for renewed caution among citizens.

“We are seeing a gradual yet consistent rise in COVID-19 cases. The public must remain alert, especially with the positivity rate inching upwards,” said a senior Health Department official.

Currently, 148 individuals remain under active treatment, while 19 patients have been discharged in the last 24 hours alone. The cumulative number of recoveries since January 1 now stands at 103, indicating a moderate recovery pace.

Testing efforts have also been ramped up, with 513 tests conducted in the last 24 hours—463 RTPCR and 50 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT). The data underscores a clear uptick in test positivity, prompting health authorities to track and trace potential clusters more aggressively.

A State of Mild Alert: Public Urged to Follow Protocols

Though no fresh restrictions have been announced yet, the Health Department is actively monitoring the situation and has advised citizens to:

  • Wear masks in crowded or closed environments

  • Avoid unnecessary travel

  • Get tested if symptomatic

  • Ensure vaccination, especially booster doses for vulnerable groups

“Our hospitals are equipped and ready, but we urge the public to not take the virus lightly. Even a minor surge can lead to exponential spread if ignored,” added the official.

As Karnataka continues to battle seasonal ailments and monsoon-related diseases, the resurgence of COVID-19 adds a layer of complexity to the state’s public health landscape. Citizens are being urged to act responsibly and help prevent what could be the beginning of a larger community spread.
